Pit pat.. pit pat. Down it poured, liquid silver, slipping from a leak in the heavens. Surely StarClan would be soaked from all this nonsense as well? Nah. They were dead, they didnt deserve such an unpleasant affair. His handsome, broad face creasing into a frown as the massive feline creature emerged from his dusty nest within the hollow, fallen oak. Immediately, this golden-orange coat was flushed a deep rubicund, tabby streaks disappearing instantly. Letting out a low, inaudible moan, Foxbound blinked away the rain that sloshed into his vision, stinging his golden eyes, though they were now also fading into a different color. A dark, miserable teal. Why rain? Usually, the weather was so pleasing and sunny. Then again, it was New-leaf, when showers were aplenty. Though the hearty tom could deal with almost any other form of weather, the clammy moisture rain inflicted, and the crawling shivers that raced down the flesh, just purely irked him. Such an unpleasant thing. Swinging his head around to scan the desolate-seeming camp, the lean deputy snorted. Oh boy. How fun patrols would be today. He looked up to the sky, blinking rapidly to keep his gaze clear of water, the ginger tabby noted that the sun was steadily rising behind the clouds, and the lazy old ElmClan cats had slept long enough. Turning, his tail disappeared into the flickering shadows of the warrior's den, following the rest of his body. "Hey!" He barked out, nudging the closest cat with a grin. "Up and at 'em you lazy lumps!" His gruff voice sparked thick humor as he wove through the masses of sleeping bodies, poking noses and lightly tugging at tails. Oh how he felt bad for the poor cats, but it was so much fun to torture them like this! "Raining its pouring, the elder is snoring!" He called out, prodding at another clanmate. Then, curling his tailtip happily, the deputy decided his work was satisfyingly finished. Back to the rain. Frowning once more, his inhaled deeply, then burst out of the den into the bitingly chilled, wet air. If only it would spontaneously stop. Shaking his head at the thought, Foxbound turned to face the emerging warriors to gather patrols.

A gray feline jolted suddenly awake at the sound of the deputy's voice. The she-cat's eyes were wide and her fur was standing on end, her tail fluffed up to twice its normal size. She looked thoroughly alarmed. However, when she realized that it was just Foxbound waking everyone up, she let her fur lay flat. She ran her tongue over her body, trying to make her fur neater. Her eyes were narrowed now in annoyance. Why did he have to go and be so obnoxious?
An orange tom jumped as something pulled his tail. He leaped to his paws, fur bristling. He realized that all the noise was coming from Foxbound, and that the deputy was probably the one who pulled his tail. His thick fur laid flat, and he hastily groomed himself, eyes still narrowed. He blinked the sleep from his eyes. The tom shot an irritated glance at Foxbound, and turned to exit the den. He lashed his tail in displeasure. He was woken up in one of the worst ways possible, and of course, it was raining. He had a feeling this wasn't going to be a good day.
The gray she-cat soon finished grooming herself, and padded past her mother, who was sitting in her nest, grumpily forcing her fur to lay flat. Rainsong was already over the unpleasant awakening, but her mother was a different story. She flicked the calico she-cat on the nose with her tail as she passed, and slid out into the clearing.
Blazeheart glanced at Cloverdance, who looked quite agitated. He noticed Rainsong exiting the warriors' den in front of him. The tomcat followed her, and narrowed his eyes as the rain wet his face. He let out a small moan, but didn't complain about the rain. The young warrior glanced over her shoulder at him, her blue-green gaze brimming with amusement. Blazeheart narrowed his eyes, and batted at her tail with his forepaw. Rainsong smiled and swiftly moved her tail out of the way just in time, and flicked him on the ear. She looked back in front of her at the rest of the clearing. She hummed softly, listening to the falling rain. Blazeheart watched her for a moment, listening to her quiet humming. He then turned to look at the entrance of the warriors' den, out of which Cloverdance was now emerging. The she-cat flicked her ear in greeting, then looked at Foxbound, waiting for him to say something.

The cheery voice of a tom made the small she-cats eyes pop wide. She smiled softly. Foxbound, the rambuncious almost always happy spirit. She sighed and stood stretching out of her warm mossy bed and towards the entrance planning to groom in the mourning sun. Her thoughts dampened as she saw the rain so instead she sat down inside the den, no wonder it was still dark in the den, it was cloudy and raining. She sighed and began to groom her soft beige pelt. Large green eyes scanning the sleeping warriors. She thought about waking everyone else, but they'd wake soon enough, and she was too shy to prod them awake. She lifted herself from the ground and stepped out on freshly cleaned paws into the soggy muddy earth and sighed. A little mud never hurt any she-cat, but it was aggitating to just clean yourself and be put out in mud. But the refreshing rain scent filled her mouth and she smiled softly, eyes sparking. Islandswish stood half submerged in the den for less then a second before darting out into the rain letting its full power hit her pelt. It wasnt as bad as some cats seemed to be thinking, but she didnt voice her own opinions. She was a quiet, shy she-cat, but she had a mind as well, and that mind swelled with things to do in the rain. She pawed the mud before her and smiled she went to foxbound. "Good mourning" she said with a soft swat at the mud. Hoping to lightly spray him with it. Foxbound was one of the only cats that Islandwish was close too, and she didnt mind talking and sometimes playing with him. After all he was her mentor before she became a warrior. The dainty she-cat smiled and backed away, hoping it wouldnt bother him since the rain would only wash it away in a few seconds.

Treestar stagged out of her den. She was on her last life and she wanted to be sure that Foxbound knew everything that he could be taught before she passed on. The old leader coughed in a painful way as she joined Islandwish and Foxbound. "Hello you two. It seems today is not a good day for anything is it?" She turned to her deputy and said, "Foxbound could you organize two parties please. One for hunting and one for patroling. I want three cats in each. Please find cats that won't mind this stupid rain. Maybe Have Cloudstorm hunting and Treetop patroling. I know their both eager to leave the camp." Treestar coughed again in a raspy way. She knew her last life was almost over.
Treetop saw her mother talk to Foxbound and Islandwish and envied the young tom. Treetop sort of liked Foxbound, but she thought that Islandwish may like the deputy as well. Treetop knew when to back down and so she would let Islandwish have first pick on a mate. The young she-cat sighed unhappily. She desperately wanted to leave the camp, but with the rain it made it impossible. Treetop turned to her brother who was dozing in his nest, oblivious to his surroundings.
Cloudstorm was dreaming. In his dream he was hunting with Dragonflypaw, his crush. The young tom played like a kit with the young she-cat and he smiled when she replied back. Cloudstorm was glad that he had met Dragonflypaw and had fallen in love with her. Cloudstorm would ask Dragonflypaw to be his mate as soon as she became a warrior. The white tom sensed his sister's eyes gazing upon him and he growled. He heard a rustle as his sister left the den and into the rain.

Though he still blinked rapidly, as the rain fell harder than what he tailtip could wipe from his bleary eyes, Foxbound clearly saw the teetering shape of Treestar stumble from her den. The poor, sickly she-cat should not be out in these conditions! Thick russet coat slightly ruffled by the fact that she was out-and-about, he smoothed it down before the rain could get into his undercoat, and turned back to the warriors den, where, satisfyingly enough, many groggy felines were waking. He returned venom glares with grins that dripped with sarcastic pity, and turned to a small, sweet voice beside him. "Oh hey there Islandwish." Foxbound smiled and twitched his tail over her ear, but then jumped up as she splashed him, spluttering. "Plagh!" He yelped as mud soiled the frosty wite patches, instantly shaking his coat out, though it was instantly dampened once more. Still, the rain was already slowing a bit, enough to see properly, and he noticed the gray-blue leader tottering towards him, and dashed to meet her halfway. "Hm? Oh sure Treestar," He meowed, dipping her head with a smile. "I was just rousing everyone, I'll let those two know." He tailed a forepaw and patted the older she-cat's shoulder with a smile sigh, meeting her eyes. "Please get better, will you?" He pleaded affectionately, then dipped his head again and spun. Tail held high, the massive tom pushed into the growing crowd of cats milling around the warriors den. "Oh come on! It's a little water!" He shouted, snorting at the complaning warriors, then lightly prodding Cloudstorm. "Cloudstorm, I'll need you to lead the dawn hunting patrol, will you? Treestar wants two other cats with you, so I'll leave that up to you. Find me when you return please?" Foxbound twitched his ear and caught sight of Treetop. "Hey! Treetop, your mother would like you to be on a border patrol. I was thinking perhaps Islandwish and I could join you? Grab something to eat, I'll meet you at the entrance." He purred, nodding then turning. On his way out, he tapped Rainsong on the shoulder. "Could you lead the Sunhigh hunting patrol please?" He mewed, dipping his head to Blazeheart's expectant gaze. "You can join her or take out the Evening border patrol. Up t'you." Feeling quite satisfied with the morning, the burly deputy slid out of the crowd, and towards the small, soggy pile of fresh-kill, though at this point, it could hardly be considered fresh, and picked out a small thrush. It would have to be enough to hold him off until the sunhigh patrol returned, at least. Gulping the carcass down, he made his way over and tapped Islandwish's shoulder. "Will you come on the dawn patrol with me and Treetop please?" He purred, then nodded towards the entrance. "Meet you there after you eat." With that, he turned and settled at the entrance.

Treetop slowly got to her paws and left the den. She went to the fresh-kill pile and quickly got something to eat. As soon as she finished that she joined Foxbound and Islandwish. She envied her brother. He would be still most of the time while she was in and out of the rain. The young warrior sighed inwardly, but she was excited to leave the camp. She didn't like water, but rain made everything grow and she knew that the water would rise and there would be more water to drink. Treetop stared at her mother hoping to be there when her last life was over.
Cloudstorm padded out of the den and looked around for two cats willing to go with him on the hunting patrol. The tom was glad to be chosen to lead a hunting patrol. He felt honored and he would make his mother and deputy proud. He looked at his mother and whispered, "Do you want to hunt with me mother? Maybe stretch your legs. You shouldn't be cooped up in the camp all the time."
Treestar gave a rusty purr, "I can't leave Cloudstorm. Go on. Find two others to leave with you. I am too old to hunt and patrol anymore. When I die Foxbound will be leader and he will have more energy then me." Treestar stopped and coughed. It was getting harder for her to breath, "Hurry back though. You and your sister both. My time is fast running out and I want you both here in the camp as well as Foxbound. The three of you are important to me. Good luck Cloudstorm." She raised her voice so her daughter could hear, "Good luck Treetop!" Treestar turned and padded into her den where she would sit out the storm. Her coughing grew worse and she knew her last life would soon be over.

Islandswish nodded nd gulped down a mouse whole, not pausing after she swallowed but darting to the entrnce. "Ready" she said with a small smile at Treetop. She felt more at ease with Foxbound here, if he hadnt been going on patrol with her she'd have been quiet and shy. Though yes she knew all these cats well, she was not the most outgoing unless you kne her well.
Twistedtear came from the warriors den not bothering to groom her now soaking pelt. She made her way to the food. Seeing Treestar she felt sadness weigh her shoulders. They're great leader was coming to an end. She picked up a plump vole and trotted towards her leaders den as her leader disapeared. "Treestar?" she called hopefully being allowed in the den. "I have your food" her voice was muffled.

Patiently, the deputy waited as the two young she-cats gulped down their meals, similarly to himself, and flitted over. Already he felt his meal, having been eaten much too fast, complain, but he pushed away the annoying feeling and drowned out the sound of his grumbling belly, and jumped up, glancing from clanmate to clanmate. "Right. You two ready to go? Lets make this a quick patrol, I wanna be back to try and nurse Treestar. She's worse this morning than yesterday and getting worse. Treetop, you're leading this patrol, so.. lead the way." He purred, jumping up as Islandwish trotted over, and dipped his head to her, flicking her ear with his tailtip then smoothing down his chest fur with his long pink tougue, obviously eager to get out and about, even in this miserable state of weather. Still, the rain was beginning to let up just a bit, and had decreased from it's pouring state into a heavy drizzle. Using his unaturally long tail, Foxbound wiped away a pool of moisture collecting inside his ear and glanced at Treetop to lead.

Treetop's eyes widened, but she did as she was told. She led the way out of the camp and into the forest. Treetop's green-ish blue fur quickly blended in to her surroundings and she softly padded forward. The rain made things a little difficult to scent things out, but luckily the only fresh smells around were prey. The young she-cat stopped along the ElmClan/FreeClan border and refreshed their side of the invisible line. She could tell that FreeClan had done the same. She turned to Foxbound, "So far nothing seems to be out of the ordinary." Her eyes scanned the FreeClan territory and noticed how different it was. Treetop shook her gentle head and pushed forward.
Soon she came to another marker and turned to Islandwish, "Would you like to refresh this marker Islandwish?" Treetop wanted to get along with her Clanmates as best as she could. Treetop wasn't an experienced warrior, but she knew to let others have a chance at something so they could help keep their Clan safe. Treetop was one of those who still needed to learn their place in the Clan. Treetop's gold eyes held Islandwish's own deep green ones. Treetop admired Islandwish and wish she could be more like her.

Islandswish smiled and nodded, her bright green gaze sliding away as she went to the marker and marked it. "there" she said, the mrker had been refreshed by both territories now. She stood behind Treetop again. Hoping and preying to starclan that their leader Treestar would be fine, but she knew it of no use, this was Treestars last life, and soon she'd be gone to starclan to watch over them all. A tear slid from her green eyes but it wasnt noticable considering her face was soaked with water already.

Treetop scented the tears and head butted Islandwish. "Its ok Islandwish. Only one thing would make you cry. My mother lived a long, full life. I learned a thing or two from my mother and if Foxbound agrees then I shall help him start his leadership." She eyed Foxbound from the corner of her eye. She knew the tom was caring and gentle, but would he accept her help as well as her brother's?

Islandswish nodded and smiled softly. The tears dried up, but she still felt the sadnes of the death thatn was soon to press in upon them all. But she took a deep breath and said. "Lets hurry like Treestar said" she said nodding. --- Twistedtear mewed again, this time setting the food on her paws so it wouldnt get muddy. "Treestar, please let me in. I have your food. You should eat!" she pleaded since the leader hadnt answered her, in a second she would rush in if she didnt get a reply, a dreadful fear that her leader had already passed pressed in on the she-cats mind.

Treestar gave a raspy reply, "Come in Twistedtear. Speak with me for awhile." Treestar coughed. She wasn't going to last for much longer and the Clan knew it. The green-ish blue she-cat's eyes were half closed. She was about to sleep and if it wasn't for Twistedtear's interruption then she would have most certainly passed on. As soon as Treetop, Cloudstorm, and Foxbound returned then Treestar would announce her departure from that life and wish her deputy good luck as leader. Treestar stuggled to her paws and sat unsteadily on her haunches.

"Oh, sure," Rainsong mewed in reply to Foxbound's request. She looked at Blazeheart, her entire face expressing the question she was practically asking. She didn't have to say a word.
"Sure, I'll come," he mewed, and smiled. "I guess I'll lead the evening border patrol, too." The tom looked at Cloverdance. "Do you want to come?"
"What?" the calico she-cat asked, looking quickly over at Blazeheart and Rainsong. She hadn't been paying attention to them. She seemed to be thinking deeply about something.
Rainsong noticed this, and managed to conceal the concern that she felt. Her mother didn't usually think like that, but something was definitely on her mind. "Are you okay?" she asked quietly.
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine," Cloverdance mewed.
"I asked if you want to come on the evening border patrol with me," Blazeheart mewed.
"Oh, okay. Yeah, that'd be great," the she-cat mewed, flicking her tail.
Rainsong flicked her tail doubtfully. Her mother seemed very distracted about something....
