Twistedtear came in and set the food down. "eat she said gently. "I will sorely miss you Treestar, you are a great leader" she said suddenly, her face calm and smooth but her eyes torn with pain. Tears welled in her eyes but she forced herself not to cry. Her leader was a great, strong leader but this unknown sickness could not be cured by the medicinecats and she would pass soon.

Swinging his massive head from side to side, the russet deputy gave a gentle sigh after watching the two she-cats awkwardly jab at the possibility of a friendship. And he could make this so much easier for them if his mind weren't filled with the pitiful image of a frail grayish she-cat staring him down with those faded golden eyes, as though begging for help. I'm not medicine cat Treestar! He wanted to shout at the terrible image that refused to leave his mind, but her gaze burned into his conscious like a branding iron, those eyes, filled with doom and dispair. Blinking rapidly to bring back the present, Foxbound glanced up to Islandwish and Treetop, dipping his head sorrowfully as tears slipped down the beige she-cat's face. "It's gonna be alright Islandwish." He murmured, tenderly stroking her back. No it's not! Shivering as the rain began to fade, he looked to the sky, then back down to his clanmates. Treestar wouldn't make it through, but he would try his best to take her powerful place, though it wouldn't be easy. He was grateful to Treetop's subtle hint of help, and nodded slightly, then spun, trotting along to the next border. "Yes, hurry. That's the charm! Let's get this one marked and make our way along. C'mon now girls." He meowed, trying to keep his deep voice light, but he couldn't hide the emotions swirling in his deep teal-green gaze, so he simply averted his eyes and moved on, keeping his massive paws as swift as he could manage without stumbling. "You ladies all finished with this patrol? Maybe we can come back later, but my deputy senses are tingling," He meowed over his shoulder, further quickening his pace as he swiveled toward camp. "And I'd like to get home if you don't mind."

Treetop nodded, "I agree Foxbound. Let's get back." The she-cat raced ahead and flew into the camp. Her brother hadn't left yet. "Figures," she muttered, but there was a pained look on his face and the warrior knew instantly. She raced to her brother's side. "What happened Cloudstorm? Has she passed yet?" The young femme hoped she hadn't missed her mother's passing.
Cloudstorm shook his head and said in a pained voice, "She's close. I'll be in mother's den. When Foxbound comes then he MUST meet us in mother's den." He turned and flew into Treestar's den and sat near her while his sister waited for the deputy. The white tom was worried about his mother. She had been a good leader and she had chosen well when Foxbound was made deputy.
Treestar coughed heavily. She told Twistedtear to leave just as her son came in. He knew that she was leaving the world. Treestar had to hold on a little longer though, her deputy and her daughter were not yet there and she had final words for the three of them before she left her old life behind and joined her new one. "Cloudstorm. I want Islandwish here too. I have some words for her too," Treestar rapsed to her son. Cloudstorm relayed it to Treetop.

Islandswish soon skidded through the mud into camp, covered from head to toe in mud she didnt cre, a sickening feeling retched through her gut, making her want to puke. soon Treestar would pass. "Is she alright?" she asked eagerly to Treetop.
Twistedtear complied and licked the leaders head before leaving the den, her face sullen and twisted in pain at seeing her leader in such bad shape. Thoguh she knew, the disease was uncurable and would soon take many more victims with it.

His head flew up as the she-cat flew past, darting ahead through the thick forest leaving he and Islandwish for a moment, but only a moment, as they were so close to camp. Still, the dark ginger tom couldn't help but notice the sickened expression that laced the beige tabby's delicate face, and sighed softly. Wordlessly, the deputy draped his tail over hers comfortingly, then let it fall away as camp approached them. He heard the muffled voices of clanmates, and a wall of feline scent nearly knocked him off his feet. Had any other patrol even left yet? Theirs was quite speedy, but all these thoughts flew from his mind as soon as he laid a massive frosty paw past the entrance. A deep breath gushed past his lips while he hesitated, unsure of his strength at this moment. Was he ready for a planned death? Hardly. Shaking his head, Foxbound drew a lungful of moist air and slipped inside of Treestar's den, peering around the darkness until feline forms began to take shape. "Hi Cloudstorm, Treestar." He murmured, whiskers drooping.

Treetop turned to Islandwish, "Treestar wants you and me in the den. Come." She turned and joined her mother and brother in the den. When she saw her mother her stomach twisted in pain. Treestar was so frail that she almost looked like a skeleton. Treetop tried to nuzzle her mother, but Treestar hissed at her to leave her alone.
Cloudstorm flicked his sister's flank apologetically. He turned back to his mother, "So what id you want us for Treestar? What is so important that four cats are needed at your death?" The white tom was confused.
"I'll make this quick. Treetop and Cloudstorm keep each other safe. If anything happens to you two and one dies then I will claw you both!" She turned to Foxbound, "My time is almost over and I have one more thing to tell you before I go." She paused and gathered her words, "I may be getting this wrong, but I still have an opinion. I have seen how you treat Islandwish and it seems to me that you like her. If that is the case do not hesitate to make her a part of you in all ways. Now Islandwish..." she turned to the she-cat just behind the others.

As Islandswish entered she sat, sort of behind the others. Hearing Treestars words to Foxbound made her face heat up, though she knew it wasnt noticable under her fur. "Yes Treestar?" her soft voice nearly a croak at the tears she fought back. Her leader was a great one,and would always be remembered.

"Islandwish even though you may not have known it, but I have always treated you like a daughter. You have a great personality. Follow your heart to where it takes you and no matter what I will always be proud of you. I wish you all luck in your futures." With these final words, Treestar gave a last shaky breath.... and died.
Treetop yowled in sadness. She had been very close to her mother and now she was gone. Treestar had been a good leader and a good mother. She turned to Foxbound, "Your leader now Foxbound. You have to go to the Starpool and recieve your nine lives." Tears stung the young she-cat's eyes and she touched her mother's fur one last time then left the den. She yowled for the Clan to hear, "TREESTAR IS DEAD!"

He watched the dying leader snap at her children and his eyes widened slightly, was that really any way to say goodbye? Shivering, he watched as she turn oh-so-slowly, to him, and he blinked in acknowlegdement, but as her brittle words flowed choppily from her lips, the massive ginger gave a silent gasp at her, almost appalled. That was the way she was going to tell him goodbye? She was going to demand that he chase after a she-cat that was naught but a friend, order him to keep her close and most of all embarrass him abotu his lovelife in front of his clanmates? Spluttering, the tabby stumbled back a step and watched as she shared her parting words with Islandwish, inhaling quiet lungfuls of air at a time to calm his fraying nerves, and mumbled softly his goodbye to the great leader, even if her passing was hardly what he expected. Lurking near the back of the den while Treetop, Islandwish, and Cloudstorm mourned, the new leader allowed them a moment. He would do his grieving later. "Cloudstorm, Treetop, will you two take her out into the clearing? I will go gather the herbs we will need for the journey.. yes I'd like you two to join me. Maybe you can get a glimpse of your mom or something." He spun and kept his gaze away from Islandwish's an darted out of the den into the abandoned medicine cat's den. After nosing around for a moment, ruffling the small piles of crisp leaves, most of which were rotten, until he found the right ones. He'd eaten the nasty things when he had accompanied Treestar to Starpool several times. Gathering three small bundles together, he gulped down his own with a cringe, and slipped outside once more, to look around for Treetop and Cloudstorm. "C'mon guys, we better get moving." short sorry

Islandswish noticed the way he avoided her, comanded her to do nothing and was sad. He was one of the only cats she'd talked to about anything. And now he was avoiding her. Tears slipped down her face, she felt like she had lost two things, a leader and a friend. She touched Treestars limp body with her nose, shuddering away from the lifless skin beneath her limp fur. She let the tears flow before leaving the den and sitting out in the rain near the outskirts of camp, her head tilted downwards. The mud that covered her pelt slowly washing away and she became soaked again, she did not look up nor wish The trio a safe trip.
Twistedtear mourned by the leaders den, watching with pained eyes as she was removed. They would soon receive Foxbound as Foxstar. And Treestar would always be forever in their hearts.

Treetop noticed how Foxbound's attitude towards Islandwish changed. She grew angry, "No Foxbound. I think I shall stay here. My mother said she may be wrong about what she said about you and Islandwish. If your going to treat Islandwish like that then go right ahead. I'll stay and help guard the camp." The she-cat turned and padded past Islandwish, "Come on. Let's get the herbs needed for Foxbound and Cloudstorm. He has never been to the Starpool." Treetop smiled at the beautiful she-cat showing that she cared about her and that she would be there no matter what.
Cloudstorm was hurt. He wanted to be with his sister, but she did have a point about what his mother had said. He sighed and turned to Foxbound, "My mother wasn't commenting on your lovelife Foxbound. She was saying keep Islandwish close to you and make sure she was safe. That was her way of saying that she cares about Islandwish. Treestar was never telling you to make Islandwish your mate. That's your choice if you want her as a mate or not. In all ways means give her an apprentice, have her lead patrols, be there for her when she is in desperate need of help." Cloudstorm flicked his tail gently onto Foxbound's shoulder and turned to get the herbs that would be needed for the journey. He stopped and looked back, "We are seriously low on cats. I don't think more than two would be safe leaving the camp. Treetop was right in saying she should stay. We're stronger together and she has some leadership qualities. She can take care of the camp while we are gone." He purred towards the other tom and disappeared into the Medicince Cat den and recieved his share of nasty traveling herbs.
OOC: Sorry if I sounded snappy with Treetop. She and Cloudstorm would have thought that Foxbound would have understood his dying leader's words. They didn't think that Foxbound would get confused and think Treestar was talking about his lovelife. Treestar had been trying to say treat Islandwish like a sister or a daughter. Islandwish is special and should be kept safe... then again all Clanmembers should be kept safe. ^_^'

"They already have them. Lets hunt" said Islandswish with a nervous smile. She wasnt used to Treetop, but she was sure she could grasp at friendship this way. They could be friends before nightfall. Islandswish stood and shook her sopping wet pelt with a smile. She started towards the entrance of the camp looking back to see if Treetop was following.

//"and it seems to me that you like her"
Ginger, he liked everyone, and all of his clanmates ought to be treated well, don't you think? He just thinks though are weird parting words to her successor. Instead of some 'do well, I know you will blahblah.' It's this about some specific she-cat she thinks he likes. Obviously he won't interpret that well. And I'm not gonna post after this, I'm just going to post my claim, if that's alright.

The dilute calico she-cat had drifted back into her thoughts, but shot back to reality at the piercing sound of Treetop's mournful yowl. The she-cat's emerald and gold disks shifted to the entrance to their leader's den.
Rainsong pricked her ears at the sound of her Clanmate's voice. She looked at Blazeheart. The tom turned his head so that he was looking at her. They had the same drained expression. Rainsong parted her jaws, but couldn't bring herself to utter a single mew. They all knew what had just happened.
A brown tabby tomcat padded lightly into the ElmClan camp, two shrews and a mouse resting between his jaws. His bright green eyes had a happy gleam to them, as he didn't mind the rain. However, upon entering the camp, he felt a rather heavy, smothering feeling consume him. He knew something was wrong. The tomcat bounded over to the fresh-kill pile, his pawsteps not as light and carefree as when he had first entered his Clan's home. He dropped his catches on the pile, and scanned the camp. He saw Blazeheart and Rainsong standing close to each other, their faces bearing a look of grief. He noticed Cloverdance standing near them, her gaze fixed on Treestar's den. What?-
His incomplete question was answered as Treetop yowled to them all that their leader was dead. Tigerspirit felt his heart sink and his stomach twist. His tail lowered, and his whiskers drooped.
All four cats watched as Foxbound prepared to leave for the Starpool with the cats that would accompany them. The warriors weren't quite sure what to do. Their leader had just died.... They felt hollow and heavy, and none of them felt quite felt as if they'd be able to get their paws to move even if they tried. Tigerspirit, though, after a few moments of standing alone, forced himself to join his friends. He stood beside Rainsong. He and Blazeheart pressed against the young she-cat, and the three warriors waited. Cloverdance looked over at them, but didn't move. Her green orbs shifted so that they were directed at the ground.
Rainsong stared at the entrance to the leader's den. Foxbound, who would be known as Foxstar after recieving his nine lives, would be dwelling there when he returned from the Starpool. Rainsong couldn't help but shudder. This unknown sickness had taken one cat. Who would be next? Rainsong had a very eerie, unsettling feeling that Treestar wouldn't be the last. She genuinely hoped that this feeling was nothing more than a hunch -- and a hunch that would be proven incorrect. Something Rainsong didn't like much was being proven wrong, but in this case, she prayed to StarClan for it.
