Acepaw dragged her stiff limbs one by one out of the apprentice's den. She stretched her jaw far and wide as a monstrous yawn escaped her body. Another long day stood ahead of her, taunting her with it's flashing eyes...challenging her to take it on. Her sleepy eyes burned to life with determination and a lop-sided grin displayed on her face. She shook the peaceful night from each of her legs as if she were trying to free pesky water droplets from her fur. She hastily swiped a paw across her ear attempting to look half presentable.
The clan had yet to come to life yet, however. Only a few sleepy cats dotted the FreeClan camp. Her stomach pleaded for food with it's usual obnoxious growl. Acepaw frowned and glanced down at her own cream belly fur, almost considering meowing back to it. Almost instantly she shook the immature thought from her head. She was no longer a kit...she didn't have time for childish games. She unsheathed her claws and left them sink into the soft earthy soil of the camp. In order to become the best she could be she was going to have to grow out of such nonsense! Acepaw's teal eyes hardened as she bound towards the leader's den in search for the first task of the day.

Gingerstar woke to the sound of birds chirping in the early morning. She stood and stretched out the sleep from her aching muscles. Her daughter, Ivypaw, was on the mend thanks to Stargazer and Whisperwind. The ginger she-cat stepped out of her den and saw her apprentice looking at her. She joined the young apprentice, "Good morning Acepaw. Are you ready for some training?" The leader was glad to have another apprentice after being without one for so long. Gingerstar thought for a moment and said, "Do you want to go out with Dewpaw and Blackwidow or just you and me?" Gingerstar's friend, Blackwidow, was given an apprentice even though she had never wanted one. The ginger leader had noticed her friend change when she recieved Dewpaw.
Despite Dewpaw being an apprentice he please Blackwidow and made her happy. Blinking her pale green eyes she stared at her apprentice and wondered what her name would be. Acepaw.... hmmmmm... Gingerstar knew that by the time her apprentice was a warrior she would have a good warrior name.

"Good morning," Acepaw meowed back respectably. The fur on Acepaw's chest fluffed out with pride as she reminded herself that her mentor was the clan leader. I'm bound to become the best warrior around with a clan leader for a mentor! Visions of Acepaw speaking to her own clan clouded her head. Her brave confident voice rang arcoss through the crowd of cats, resonating through the forest and out over the hills. Beside her was her own little apprentice, eagerly waiting for her training just as she was right now...oh no! Acepaw snapped out of her dreaming just to hear the last few words of Gingerstar's sentence, "or just you and me?" Acepaw's mind reeled for any possible sentence Gingerstar could have uttered. Had she asked to go hunting? Training? Yes, it must have been training...but what about the or part. It obviously wasn't a yes or no question due to the fact that the conjugation word "or". Acepaw put her best "pondering face" on then suddenly knew what to say. She would be diplomatic: "Whichever you would prefer."
Let this be a lesson, Acepaw inwardly scolded herself. From now on, you must give your total attention to your mentor. We don't want her seeing you slip up like that again! you'll never become a warrior with that type of attention span!

Gingerstar purred and gently cuffed her apprentice, "Pay attention next time silly. Alright I'll let Blackwidow and Dewpaw join us. Go get your brother." She purred again at the apprentice and gave Acepaw a gentle lick. She loved her apprentice and would make her a good warrior. The ginger she-cat went on, "I'll go find Blackwidow." She gently nudged her apprentice towards the apprentice den, "Find Dewpaw and meet Blackwidow and I here at the fresh-kill pile. Your both to eat before we leave."
The ginger leader turned and saw Blackwidow watching from a distance. The femme went over to her friend. "I see you were watching the whole conversation. I want you and Dewpaw with me and Acepaw. Sound like a plan?"
Blackwidow narrowed her eyes dangerously at her leader. She was the only one who was able to question her leader and get away with it. No one messed with the black she-cat except Gingerstar. The two she-cats had hit it on immediately and now they were best of friends. Suddenly the dangerous black she-cat gave a purr of laughter, "I can never stay angry with you Gingerstar. You were the only one with me when others were wary of me. Even when you and I were apprentices you did all you could to teach me when my mentor himself was afraid. When our leader found out and saw how unafraid you were of me he decided that you would care for me and train me with your mentor. Remember the look of shock and horror on Tanglewish's face? She couldn't believe she got stuck with me. Yes. I am ready when you are."

Acepaw ducked her head in embarrassment and averted her gaze towards the lush green wall of vegetation that surrounded the FreeClan camp. Although her mentor did not sound angry Acepaw’s tail drooped for she had disappointed herself. She would just have to make up for this inconvenient mistake in her training. The morning energy she had lost in a split second had returned with doubled strength. Digging her claws into the hard packed soil that stretched throughout the whole camp, she lifted her head and replied, “It won’t happen again…I promise!” Her reply satisfied her because although she had a hard time focusing lately she knew that a promise to the clan leader was dramatically more important. Since Acepaw knew she’d never be able to live knowing she had broken a promise with her leader she was confident that it indeed, would never happen again. The rumbling purr sounded from Acepaw’s throat as Gingerstar kindly licked her shoulder.
Acepaw watched Gingerstar approach Blackwidow and her heart leapt into her throat when she caught sight of the expression Blackwidow was directing at the leader. Blackwidow was the scariest cat in the clan and maybe the whole forest. Acepaw wondered who was more vicious. The strongest warrior in ShadeClan or Blackwidow? A shudder trembled through Acepaw’s body which subsided after she noticed the smile that had begun to stretch upon Blackwidow’s face. Acepaw exhaled a breath she was not aware she was holding and scurried off to find Dewpaw.
Practically galloping, Acepaw scambered over to the Apprentice’s Den giddily. She was excited that she would have a partner for training today. If things went really well maybe Gingerstar would allow Acepaw to show off some of her moves in a friendly duel with Dewpaw. Acepaw poked her head around the rounded weathered corner and called, “Dewpaw?! You in there sleepyhead? Come on, we’ll eat real quick then we’re off to the training hollow!” A chorus of grumpy meows answered her. Phrases like “Shut your trap, cats are trying to sleep here.” and “Don’t you have any courtesy?” chased Acepaw out of the den and caused her to sit by the entrance and wait for Dewpaw to arrive. “The sun’s well up in the air,” Acepaw grumbled as she licked a stray tuft of fur flat, “Maybe we’d have more warriors if all our apprentices weren’t so lazy!”

Dewpaw got up hesitantly. He murmured silently to himself and met Acepaw outside of the den. They walked silently to the pile of fresh-kill, and Dewpaw chose a vole. He scarfed down his meal and headed toward Gingerstar and his mentor, who he doesn't really understand, Blackwidow.

Coming from the temporary den, a medium sized, siamese cat made her way towards Gingerstar. Her blue gaze watching her intently, she still felt odd being in this clan at the moment, knowing she would go home to Silverclan soon though she made the best of it. "Gingerstar. Parrotpaw is doing well. She has been in and out of sleep all night, she can talk but. I still recomend no visitors, except you of course. She cant be excited or move around. Her bones have to heel right, since she nearly broke them." she said softly, taking a seat and watching Gingerstar. Parrotpaw was fast asleep in the medicine cats den,she had been taking poppy seeds like it was fresh kill.

Acepaw raced after her friend, who has said not one word since the moment he woke up. Instead he simply trudged sleepily to the fresh-kill pile and nosed through it until finding a satisfying plump vole. Acepaw picked a small mouse from the gradually growing pile of food. She had picked the small mouse as apposed to her favorite meal: the thrush, because she hated running the patrol on a full stomach. It made her feel so sluggish, so lazy. This way, she wasn't going on an empty stomach yet she wouldn't feel the impulse to fall asleep either. Like Dewpaw, Acepaw devoured the mouse in a few bites, eager to get to the patrol. She twisted her upper body to quickly groom her back flank when she felt the missing presence of her fello apprentice. Acepaw swiveled her head back to the left and to her surprise, discovered Dewpaw's usual brown fur was no where to be seen. Mildly alarmed, Acepaw quickly jumped up and scanned the rapidly increasng activity of the camp.
To the left the elders den was littered with lounging elderly cats, enjoying the warmth of the sun's rays. As her gaze advanced onwards farther to the right her eyes swiped across the aprentice den. More apprentices were leaking from it's entrance now, each cat getting a late start on the new day. Acepaw snorted at the sight of the lazy apprentices presence. With the rate that they are moving they won't ever become Warriors. She had tried to warn them, once. That their lack of enthusiasm would hinder their opportunity to become Warriors. However the cats simply scoffed that they were doing fine and that Acepaw had better watch out herself, because if thy remembered correctly she had recently been punished for leaving the camp unannounced. Acepaw's fur rose instinctively on the back of her neck. She had stormed out of the den leaving the agitating retort unresponded.
She shook her head to clear it of any unwanted thoughts then continued her search for Dewpaw. She had almost missed him, his brown pelt blending evenly with the sandy dirt that covered the camp's ground. He was walking towards his mentor, Blackwidow. Just the sight of her cause her heart to clench and her muscles to contract. It wasn't just her who felt nervous in the presence of Blackwidow. Even Dewpaw felt that uncanny essance of something frightening. Willing her paws to move she rigidly padded towards Dewpaw...and Blackwidow.
[Sorry for the wait! I've been really busy. But it's here now!]

Blackwidow looked up and saw Acepaw. She smiled, "Hurry Acepaw. You and Dewpaw will probably be the only two that become warriors." She narrowed her eyes at the other apprentices, "They're just lazy and won't amount to anything."
"Blackwidow!" Gingerstar looked at her friend with disgust. "When we return you are on apprentice duties for the rest of the day." The ginger she-cat looked down at her apprentice, "Hello Acepaw. Are you and Dewpaw ready? Come on. We're going to do some battle moves and then hunt for a little bit. Let's go." Gingerstar turned and padded towards the camp entrance. She exited and headed for the training hollow. She looked back and saw Blackwidow following.
Blackwidow followed her friend and smiled as Gingerstar looked back. She looked back at the apprentices and waited for them to join the leader and the warrior.

Dewpaw urged his paws to move toward the two warriors. He trudged toward them and tried to look at least a bit cheerful. He gently flicked Acepaw with his tail to tell her to get up. He dragged his feet onward with his friend. Once they reached the training hollow and sat down with a thud. He waited anxiously for his mentor to give him some type of torturing, tiring, training excercise.

Acepaw's lips stretched into a grin as she watched Dewpaw struggle to his paws. Despite the lack of energy he possessed she had to give him credit for trying. She felt the swell of her heart as she recalled the words Blackwidow had uttered only moments before. "Hurry Acepaw. You and Dewpaw will probably be the only two that become warriors" Those words were enough to cause all the tiny nerves throughout the extent of Acepaw's body to quiver.
She followed her clanmates toward the narrow exit of the camp. The bramble exit was just enough to allow the passage of one cat. Acepaw continued onward towards the training hollow that was empty for the time being. The musty smell of sifting dust welcomed her and she took in the smell willingly. For some unexplainable reason this location offered a sense of calmness to her. There on the edge of the battle arena she settled herself until further instruction. She felt Dewpaw's presence near her, imitating her movement.
Acepaw and Dewpaw were great friends in the nursery and she still felt some emotion towards the tom that was currently incoherent to Acepaw. She was most certain that this such feeling was not one that a mate feels for it's mate. However, it was some type of kinship love that she could feel tying her to the benevolent apprentice.[/font]

Dewpaw, sitting on the soft ground, looked over at Acepaw. He could feel a bond between them, and decided to make his feelings at least visible to her. They were friends for as long as he could remembered and he totally shut down to her after his sister had died. He felt bad and started zoning out to all of the memories they shared. Then, he snapped back and realized, he was still staring at her. He saw her squirm under his gaze and looked away. She's a very beautiful cat he thought. He licked his chest to hide his embarrassment. He shouldn't be thinking that way! They're just friends! He glanced over again and waited for their mentors to appear. Then, he looked back at Acepaw and said the first thing that he's said to her that day, " Hi, Acepaw. How's your day going?" he winced, waiting for a dumbfounded reply. Oh, so I finally find the guts to talk to her, and all I can say is How's your day going?! He thought silently. " Mousedung." he said underneath his breath, so nocat could hear, he could barely hear what he had said to himself and he was the one who said it.

Acepaw calmly swished her tail to and fro along the sandy ground, her slightly long fur collecting the particles of sand. She frowned slightly at this realization, knowing full well that she would have a horrible time cleaning that out at the end of the day. She should really think more before she automatically did something. A small unknown insect scurried across her paw and she widened her eyes in interest. To get a closer look she poked her nose nearer to the miniature busy-body. As she did so the insect spontaneously changed course and crawled right onto her nose. In surprise she snapped her head back and shook it violently. Not until she was sure that the disgusting bug was off her pink nose did she stop. Even after the unfortunate event she twitched her nose, still imaging the little crawlers legs on her.
She turned toward Dewpaw to see him staring out her. Immediately assuming it was due to her eccentric behavior she squirmed with embarrassment. He seemed to notice her embarrassment and quickly averted his gaze. "How's your day going?" she heard Dewpaw utter. "Mmm..." she thought and shrugged. "All right I suppose." She twitched her nose again just for good measure. "I just can't wait for battle training today though. Hey Dewpaw, try your best okay? I want to have a fair match with you." She laughed, "May the best cat win."

The corners of Dewpaw's mouth curled up into what he thought was a smile. He hadn't smiled since his sister died. "I will.", he mewed. He started stretching his long- legs waiting for their mentors to come. Then, not realizing it, he noticed that he was showing off and sat down abruptly. " Why don't we practice on our own until our mentors come? That should please them. Don't you think?" He lept back up and started batting her playfully. And without realizing it, he started smiling and laughing. "Unless you want to have more weird insects crawling on you, I would suggest getting up." he meowed. "And stop brushing your tail all over the place! You're getting me all sandy!" he hissed playfully.
